11 people killed in car bomb in south of Baghdad

BAGHDAD - Up to 11 people were killed and some 41 injured Wednesday in a car bomb explosion in a town near the city of Hilla, some 110 km south of Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.
"The latest police reports said that 11 people were killed and 41 injured by the blast," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The attack took place in the morning rush hours when a booby-trapped car parked outside a popular restaurant in the town of al-Shomaly southeast of Hilla, the capital of Babil province, the source said.
Most of the victims were civilians who often have breakfast at the restaurant before work, the source said.
Earlier, the source put the toll at five killed and 41 wounded by the car bomb attack.
Violence and sporadic high-profile bomb attacks continue in the Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease of violence over the last three years.
